The Gömböc: Self Righteous!

Engineered to exact specifications, the Gömböc, is the craziest looking shape ever.

Inspired by the way turtles upright themselves when flipped over, the Gömböc can self-righten itself no matter what position it's in.

Each curve, angle, and proportion has to be within 10 microns (one tenth the thickness of a hair) or it won't work.

Nice little viral video of Baron Davis and Li-Ning, the basketball shoe company in China.
They're lacing up a lot of NBA players these days.
All those places Boom Dizzle is dribbling through in the streets of Shanghai was where we went for M-Trips.
We've walked those same streets in the Winters of 2007 and 2008. There are tons of people around there and we made a lot of new relationships in those very places.
I wonder how they're doing?

Grad Show Ideas

As most of you know, I am graduating soon.
I wanted to make my grad show more interactive that show casing
because honestly, my stuff isn't worth show casing.
SO, i must deter attention off my projects and onto the passer by-er.
i want to engage them into my booth, thus tricking them into thinking
that my corner space was an amazing exhibit of sort.
Here are a few ideas how and let me know what you think:

1.) photo booth: i think this would be fun for me just to keep track of who came and something fun for the people to do. i was thinking ghetto style: a macbook and photo booth OR rent a real one like in weddings...

2.) Wall Paint: everyone pick up a brush and draw whatever you want on the wall covered in a canvas or paper. i will leave out paints and brush, pens, markers, etc.
i think that would be a cool thing to take home and see everyone's creations.
then, the people start to become part of my exhibit!

i can't think of anymore, but if people have good ideas, please share!!!

it's called the Alpha Resort-Tomamu, a ski resort/hotel in Japan
it cost 15,000 yen OR $154 a night and they warn you...
"must dress warmly" :D
i dont know how i feel about sleeping there...
but it looks like an interesting experience...
"it's all about the experience" right!? ;D

The New Year: Shanghai

I am most terrible at updating the blog.
I just wanted to share some recent pics from China!
It was such a blessed trip! God is moving there fa sho.
Continue to pray for the people and the city.
Here's a glimpse into my New Year:

1. & 2. The streets of Shanghai. Very modern. The Chinese New York. 10 story malls, off the heezy.
3. backpacking through the trails in Suzhou. You can't tell but my nose is about to fall off.
4. party in our crazy small apartment. it's bumpin' in there. trust me.
5. joe bustin' a move in front of City Mart.
6. Benny and Esther!!! Our HOMIES in Shanghai! :D
7. At bowling fellowship with our boy Frank we met on the trip.
8. a glimpse of what it's like to walk down the halls in the city. traffic in Cali is NOTHING.

Shanghai is in my prayers. I miss it already! :D

Cool Artist of the Week: eBoy

Sorry for such a late update folks. Not very Laundry Fresh. More like stale and stinky underwear.

I think this guy has been around forever, but his stuff is dope.

Simple concept: draw pixelated stuff that remind me of the old days of Nintendo and the 8-bit world.

He does mostly cities and worlds, but I love the level of detail in it. It strikes more of a chord with me especially because he does places we've been to or live in so it's fun to SEE the FAMILIAR.

Above is my hometown, LA. Below is for my homies on the East Side: Boston. Only for my homies though, not the annoying fans. :D

It also reminds me of a Where's Waldo which I grew up looking at. I think that's why my eye sight is so bad now. Try doing that junk in a moving car at night. JK. Don't try it. You'll end up with a -6.00 eye sight. :(

I will try to do one for a class assignment then post it up. It's due Wednesday so if it comes out nice, I'll post it up. Any ideas of what you guys want to see? I was thinking maybe a concept T-Shirt and shoes boutique, but we shall see. Tune in next time!!! :D

Bird's Eye View of Traffic

BBC created a documentary of the air, ground, data, landline, cellphone, and sea ship traffic in Britain ("Britain from Above") using a 3D gps tracking system and visually displayed its whereabouts in these images and videos.

Pretty crazy stuff. I like how we can visualize something that we would never be able to track on our own like cell phone signals or even air waves when your speaking or singing. I wonder what a concert could look like if we were able to create music and sound as a physical entity, like pixy dust or something. Waves can combine with a specially created substances in the air that when mixed, create bioluminescence that we can see as well as hear.

What else could we "substantialize" that we normally can't see with our eyes? The amount of toxicity in the air? UV rays? Your tracks? Where have you been in the last 24 hours and how did you get there? Anybody interested in visualizing something that they normally can't see? I'm curious to see what you guys think! :D

The Future of LSPC Architecture

Cool new (but kinda old) designs for modern churches in Scandinavia. There's something interesting about applying a modern, updated approach to something that is full of heritage and tradition.
It's such a difference from what our churches looks like now.
If Light and Salt looked like this in 2020, that would be pretty awesome.
Knowing our kids tho, that place will have foam cups and guk bap trash all over. :D

Sea Creatures and Graffiti

Here are some pics from the New England Aquarium. These are just a microcosm of examples of breath taking design. Above are some cool jelly fishies. I love the clear translucent skin revealing

some inner organs with colors. Their movements are so fluid and cool. Definitely some cool inspiration there for transportation design or even motion graphics.

Here's an example of some of that sexy floating movement. I wish I could walk and/or dance like this :D

This jelly fish looks high maintenance. Jellylicious.

Below is a mean looking sucker.

So disgusting looking, yet pink and cute. Very interesting combo of look and color.

He was under the poisonous fish section and if those lips don't say back off, his sting will get the job done.

I stumbled upon this a while back but I thought it was the coolest thing:

Reverse Graffiti!

Using a jet stream of powerful water, artists stencil in cool stuff like this into dirty walls and tunnels by cleaning and revealing the true color of the material underneath.

I think this is so genius! It's weird cuz we do it all the time when we clean "wash me" on the windows of our dirty cars.

This is pretty cool new way to advertise and customize our own cars.

We can save water and time cleaning our cars by letting it get muddy and dusty, THEN stencil in some flames in the side with soap and water!!! Let me know if you guys can think of a better application. I think it's too late and I'm going crazy. :D

The Best Shoes to Ball In: EVER!

I just got these this week and if you're looking for some new shoes to ball in,

look no further!!! The Hyperdunks are THE best I've ever played in and I've played in a LOT of shoes. The cushioning from the new LunarLite technology is so lightweight and responsive. The new Flywire keeps the shoe minimal but still very supportive. It's everything it's been hyped up to be. I love the design as well. Super simple and just like the message it conveys.

There are subtle details that makes my mouth drool.

On the medial side of the heel, Nike put red FlyWire instead of the grey fibers that they use all over the rest of the upper.

It's little things like that that makes Nike so cool and design so awesome.

Mental Design Note:

Subtle Details = Totally Sweet.

Here's some cool info about Flywire:

The wire part is called Vectran(R) fiber, a high-performance multifilament yarn spun from liquid crystal polymer and is pound for pound 5x stronger than steel while still being super lightweight. Isn't science cooool?!

Super cool how he intermingles and applies shapes and gradients of colors.

He uses complimentary colors to create contrasts as well as a flow of some sort.

I just want to boast a little about about my cousins and friends who are in the movie and tv/ commercial business.

The first clip is of my cousin Jay Hayden. He's the good looking half korean holding the football in the part where the frat boys come and he's making ridiculous faces (0:57 sec). I would like to take credit for that talent. I taught him everything that is humorous.

This clip is Jay's wife, Nikki, in a Pledge commercial. It takes mad skill to be trapped in a glass box for a week. She was also in Even Stevens and a plethora of other shows and commercials.

I felt like starting one so here it is.

Laundry Fresh is just going to be an archive of cool and captivating things that I think is pretty sweet as I experience the world that God created. I'm thinking a lot of design, nature, design in nature, sports, shoes, fashion, and just cool nuggets of inspiration as I come across it.
